Custom Tribal

This is a piece of tribal that I did on July 10, 2007. It was done for my mother as a tattoo design and turned out fairly well. The tribal behind the heart is supposed to represent a set of bird wings. I used a pen for the black work, and I just shaded in the heart with a pencil crayon. There are various forms of tribal and countless styles, so talk to me if you have something in mind. As you can see in the pictures below, I can also incorporate tribal into, or around other pictures. Bottom Left: Eagle Head, Bottom Right: Wolf

Celtic Knotwork
Celtic has always been a strong theme throughout my art career. I guess its the way the spirals, circles and key patters weave together, with precision and beauty. Celtic to me is very "neat & tidy" so I always make sure to stay as accurate as possible. I have also grown to like Celtic for the symbolism assocated with the knot work. As seen in this colored Celtic piece, there are various symbols that each mean something different. The top left represents "protection from evil". The top right represents "spiritual connection". The bottom right represents "brotherhood". The bottom left represents "balance between mental, physical and spiritual". And the middle symbol represents "Life, power, and the five stages of life". This piece I am referencing was done sometime in 2005. Since then I have been practicing new techniques and styles first used by the Celts.
The next Celtic example I have is the Celtic cross. Crosses have been quite prominent in Ancient Celtic work. Crosses are said to represent the earthly world (horizontal bar) and the heavenly world (vertical bar) becoming one, and the circle represents God being everlasting. The names you see in the circle go as follows: Yanchus, my last name, from my fathers father. Tobin from my fathers mother. McIntee from my mothers father, and Goff from my mothers mother. The Scotland in the centre is from my existing "Scotland" tattoo I had done on my right forearm. My mother was born in Edinburgh, Scotland as well as my grandpaents on her side. Celtic just comes naturally to me. I wonder why?Tuesday, March 10, 2009
What's Your Fantasy?
Fantasy art is very appealing to me and is quite prevalent in my work. Fantasy art depicts magical themes, the supernatural, creatures, ideas and even settings. Common features in fantasy art often include dragons, elves, wizards, and quite popular in tattoos, fairies. I generally draw fantasy art because it gives you a little more freedom, in comparison to say a portrait or a landscape. It allows you to think almost like a kid again; off magical kingdoms, of strange & curious monsters, and even people that may be found in these magical lands. Throughout my drawing I have come across a large fan basis for Lord of the Rings, who are also into "fan art". I have done pictures of the Hobbits, and even Gandalf fighting the Balrog in the mines of Moria. If you have an interest in fantasy art and have a certain piece in mind that you would like to see brought to life, contact me and I would be happy to help.

Portraits

Throughout the years, I have done alot of drawing, and I mean alot. I have done anything from a simple tribal piece to huge a huge 3 x 4 drawing of the Nativity scene. One type of work that seems to be favored most are portraits. Whether it be something as simple as a portrait of your pet, to a wedding photo complete with Bride, Groom, cake and even the bridesmaids, there seems to be a growing market for portrait design. I can draw pets, children (including grandchildren), family photos, wedding photos, birthday photos, famous people (like Marilyn here) and I will even draw the car you're restoring. I am a very detail oriented person, so portraits allow me to practice this sense of "perfection". I find that in order for a portrait to look like who you are drawing, attention to detail and being precise in your work is key. One mistake can change the picture entirely. Sure everything can look good, but as soon as you mess something as simple as a nose or hairline, it can alter the picture completely.
Portraits that I have done in the past have been used as gifts. For example: I had a friend ask me to draw a picture of his friend and his wife on their wedding day, cutting the cake. This friend had missed the wedding and gave this picture as a gift. Rather than do a last minute shop, this picture was a gift that showed some thought and that it was from the heart.
so if you have any birthday parties coming up, a wedding that you are attending or just want to get a gift for someone that's from the heart, contact me and I will be happy to work with you.
